For forty years in my walk with the Lord I have had this concern in my heart, how can I be perfect? Jesus in His teaching tells us to be perfect; “therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect”. The word “perfect” in modern English usage means ideal, absolute, total, sinlessness. These meanings are not what the word of God teaches at all as we are going to see in this book. The Arabic Bible is very clear in its meaning which includes an ongoing continuous process or setting the goal to be perfect. In Hebrew, “perfect” is translated from “Tamim” as used by Moses. Lev 22:21 And when a man offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD to carry out his vow, or a free-will offering in cattle or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted. There shall be no blemish in them.but the this sacrifice will not make him perfect. And from “taklit” as used by King David in: Ps 139:22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts, 24 and see if any wicked way is in me; and lead me in the way everlasting. From the Greek “perfect” carries the meanings, prepare, made complete, and pressing on. Phil 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect, but I am pressing on, if I may lay hold of that for which I also was taken hold of by Christ Jesus. Matt 21:16 And they said to Him, Do you hear what these say? And Jesus said to them, Yes, have you never read, "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings You have perfected praise?" Our praise can not be perfect but the Lord loves it because it comes from heart. The Holy Spirit has shown me that perfection is found in knowing and understanding the mind of Christ. By growing in the understanding of His mind, we will be helped to be like Him, changing into the image of Jesus, There is no perfection possible without knowing the word of God and having the right teachings. Perfect teaching produces a holy life. Psalms 119: 1 blessed are the upright in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. This means the Word of God is our map. It is our guide to the way we thing and the way we walk in this life to make us perfect. We were born complete in Him but not perfect. Perfection is an ongoing process. Every day when we make errors (sin) and say things wrong if we then repent and ask forgiveness this is the process of perfecting us in the word of God. Perfection, as I understand from Word of God, is not being sinless at all but it is trying to do what is right. It is enduring, struggling to finish the race. It is best achieved in training and equipping myself through self discipline and depending on the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit. I will have the spirit of accuracy that Luke had and I will do as Luke did in his Gospels. Luke 1: 3 it seemed good to me also, following all things accurately from the very first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus, |
